And perhaps they might be if you keep them upright and never touch them. Or use them empty. I tried them with my 5 and 7 year olds first and ended up with two large puddles of milk on the bench and the floor. Tip them over and milk comes out. Touch the top of the silicone lid and you can create a great fountain. They are easy to use and fit on a variety of cup sizes and materials. Not just a small leak, but a shooting out the straw, grab a towel kinda leak. This product travels well and it way more compact then bringing sippy cups to restaurants and on airplanes. I love that the colors are so bright and easy to find in my diaper bag. It's not completely spill proof in the sense that if your 2 yr takes out the straw and dumps it upside down obviously the drink will come out but it's pretty dang close!! Of course, he had to try it out immediately, and he especially enjoys drinking out of straws. I found it easy to put the cover on the cup -- we tried it first with the cup that came in the set, and later on one of his plastic cups. Worked great on both. The cover does a good job of keeping in the liquid even if it tips over. My only caveat is to make sure that the you pull the cover down on the cup drum tight, so that there is no give on top. I put it on a little too loosely and my son was able to press down on the top of it and was delighted when his water came up out of the straw! We use these at home now, and I have put a lid and straw in the diaper bag so that we can use it when we are out -- great for restaurants that don't always have lidded cups for the little ones. With the three pack there is enough to go around so everyone can have the same. I pack the lid and straws when we head out in case we come across any place without a lid. They are great to use then, and I have found they fit a variety of cups. She would push down on the lid and water would squirt straight out of the straw. Tried poking a hole in the top, but that didn't seem to help. That said, my daughter does love the cup. My 3 1/2 year old loves the colors and the look of it; it is the only cup she wants to use in a the three days we've had it. Her excitement is fantastic, but the product has a few issues. The air hole in the top does not function like it should because it isn't a hole; it's a cross cut into the silicone, which puts more pressure on the air than the juice in the straw does when any pressure is applied to the top of the snug. This results in juice flowing out through the straw and making a mess. After using scissors to cut a tiny piece of that silicone out of the cross cut, it works much better. Aside from this tiny physics issue, the Snug suffers from the same design flaw that the sippy cup top they make does in that the fit is so tight that it takes a lot of concentration and coordination to fit the lid onto a cup (doesn't matter if it's Boon's cup or a regular child's tumbler) without tipping the whole thing over and making a huge mess. It's very pleasing to the eye, it makes children excited to use a cup, it's easy to clean, it's dishwasher safe, I want to love it. I love Boon, this product just requires more energy from the parent than it should.
