Jolly Jumper says you can start using it at 3 months IF your baby has full neck control. My baby did, he also loves standing and at 3 months only needed his hands hand for balance. He loved the jumper from day 1. BUT he likes the Jolly Jumper Musical Mat more. I personally don't think he would like the jumper nearly as much if we didn't have the musical mat to go with it. So I highly recommend the jumper and the musical mat!BUT, everything in moderation. Jolly Jumpers (and all other jumpers, exersaucers) should only be used for 15 minutes at a time. And it recommended only twice a day max. They really aren't good for babies. Of course manufacturers will say they are, they need to sell them! A little bit of research will show you they really aren't good for them and really don't help them learn.The jumper that I got looks different than in the picture. It is now black, not blue. Which in my opinion looks much better. But, spit up shows up much more. I haven't tried washing it yet.It travels well. I personally would not buy it for a baby shower gift as they are controversial items and the recipient may not want one.I personally would never pay full price for the jumper and it is hard to get the baby in and out of. As soon as he got strong enough, he wanted to be held so he could jump in your lap. That's when I knew we needed one of these. We got it for him for Easter, right when he was 3 months old, and he started using it right away. He would, quite literally, jump until he fell asleep upright. The strength he gained in his back and legs from using this was incredible. He could stand on his own, only needing his hands held for balance, at 4.5 months. It's not the easiest to get a baby into and out of at first, but once we developed a system, it got a lot easier. It definitely helps to have two people. The jumper hangs securely from any of the frames in our house, and it was easy to take with us when we traveled. Now that he's moving on his own, he's not as interested, but we got a ton of use out of this jumper. They loved it and developed the strongest legs from all that bouncing. It was great exercise and, when they can't move much, the exercise is great for their digestion! I bought one for my 2 grandsons who both loved it and now am buying one for my coming granddaughter. Other jumpers do not hold the baby tight and they flop around in them like a rag doll. This one keeps the back straight and firm. Love this item and with 2 generations of using it, I would recommend it to anyone! It does take a little practice figuring out the best way to get the baby into it but that is only because it fits firmly to give your child support! It is good quality, really good exercise for my baby and it is great entertainment to watch her jump and giggle too! We're very glad we bought it. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the way the straps clip on to the plastic bar. It's kind of hard to do this and it seems that, if you do it a lot, the plastic might wear down. Fortunately, if you always leave the plastic bar attached to the straps and &quot;diaper&quot; when you place your baby in it, then you avoid having to attach it all the time and only have to do it upon initially putting the jumper together....I think this is what you're supposed to do anyway, but the instructions were a little unclear in this area.
