You have the option to use the Velcro loop to attach it to the arm (or car seat handle or wherever you would like to use it) or the clippy. Personally, I found the clippy quicker and easier to use but if your baby can reach and bat at it maybe velcro is a little safer. Though the clippy seemed decently study too. You can attach the arm to a crib or pack and play via a C clamp with rubber and ridges on it. It has a ring that screws down around the outside to secure it. You can choose to play with music or mute the music. The only drawback was the piece you press down on to release the two parts of the arm to make it easier to pack was very very hard to press on. I thought I was going to break it before I was finally able to press it down enough to release the two sections of the arm. But I imagine with some use this part would move a little easier. We are absolutely loving this mobile! At the moment, we use it clipped to our Pack n Play or bassinet, and in the future we will move it to the crib once our little one is sleeping in his crib. It will also be wonderful to take along with us on road trips or to pack whenever our baby is at his Grandparents' house. The songs are so lovely and relaxing and are just the right volume. The design is adorable! The little sea creatures are so fun and colorful and the high contrast blades on the top are so eye catching (black and white patterns are so great for infants)! The only change I would make is that I would add a white noise option, in case that is preferred over music, but really overall this is such a charming mobile! Our baby loves it just as much as we do! We would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a mobile or something fun for their baby.
