It is very easy to attach and detach the bottom part of the whale to get the shapes out. I could not get the water spout to really work. I have attached a video to this review of trying to get water to come out of the spout. Just a couple drops at a time would come out. Overall he really enjoyed the toy and used his imagination to play with it and is very happy. The best part besides being so cute is that it is multifunctional. The bottom can be used as a scoop for water. The shape shorter can be used for learning and fun. It also floats in the water and his by far is his favorite bath toy. It keeps him distracted while I get him all cleaned up and he loves to put the blocks in the openings over and over again. The only thing we were disappointed in was the blowhole. They love playing with it like a normal toy by putting the blocks in and then opening it up and being able to put it in the bath makes it even better. My kids get really excited about new bath toys.
