Very Glitchy & Not Enough Sizes
I put this breast pump on my registry and received it as a gift, however I so wish I would’ve chosen a different brand. My issues with it begin with the fact that it:
1. Has an open spout at the top so you can’t bend over since it doesn’t close. Also makes for storing milk while pumping on the go more complicated since you can’t just keep it in the pumps themselves.
2. The touch screen is so ridiculously sensitive if it brushes against your leg or hits the counter, it might pause or change settings on you.
3. Wasn’t a fan of the wrist strap motor design…kinda takes away from it being hands-free because it’s swinging everywhere and the tubes aren’t that long so if you set it down you’re on a short leash.
4. There are only breast shield sizes available above 21mm, which is actually pretty large. If you need anything smaller, you have to order some 3rd party inserts which in my experience make the pump less effective.
5. Worst of all, it recently started glitching. I’ve only had it for 2 months and it will suddenly stop out of nowhere with full battery and the buttons will become unresponsive. Right now it has full battery but won’t work unless it’s plugged in - which completely defeats the purpose of it being a hands free pump.
I will say, my two positives are that, they are easy to clean because of the small amount of parts and, when it is functioning normally, it DOES get milk out pretty effectively. I’d say equivalent to, if not slightly better than a standard Spectra S2 pump which has a large hospital grade motor. I’m hoping I can get a refund or at least replacement or something since it seems to be dying on me after only 2 months of use.

Missing a very important feature
There is no way to lock the touch buttons. This wouldn't be an issue if the pump wasn't marketed as "hands-free" and wearable. With no lock on the buttons it is hardly wearable - they are way too easy to press with any body part, and even trough clothes.
My solution is to use an antistatic bag from an old hard drive, it spoils the looks but prevents accidental touches. Or if you haven't bought it yet, just go for the classic Swing Maxi motor, which is a bit heavier, but has actual physical buttons.
Also, the bluetooth connectivity is just a gimmick, but sadly that's the age we live in, everything has to be connected and touchscreen.
Otherwise the pump is very good and feels solid. If it's as durable as our 10+ year old Swing and the touch buttons don't bother you it's worth the premium price.

These just spill all your milk everywhere
This is like a first draft product at best. No matter what you do milk is always spilling everywhere. I would say I lose between 1 and 2 oz each time. Then I have to mop the floors, change my clothes, and shower. I loved my Spectra but this is definitely one of the worse breast pumps on the market. Please do not buy this.
Cup Design
1) The cups don't sit upright on the counter when you take them off - so you set them down they roll over and the milk spills everywhere.
2) If you lean over (even just a bit) while wearing them milk pours out top because of the way the product holes are aligned. So you really can't walk around or pick up the baby.
3) Because of the way it's designed you cannot see if your nipple is in the center of the tube making it impossible to know if it's properly aligned without taking it off and looking at how the machine is shaping your nipple; but if you so much as touch the product milk goes everywhere.
Pump Design
1) You're connected to a cord that must be then worn around your wrist - the cord isn't long enough to pull your shirt down over it so you have to be walking around in just a bra to wear it if you're any taller than 5'0".
2) It's a really, really slow pump - in my Spectra I can get 6 oz in about 12 minutes. With this pump it takes about 30 minutes to get 4 oz even on the highest setting. Which compared to the Spectra HURTS.
3) The unit that attaches to your wrist vibrates like crazy to do the pumping. You cannot set it on the counter as it will vibrate itself off the counter which will disconnect the pump and, again, spill milk everywhere.
Of all the babies things I have purchased this was the biggest waste of money. I cannot believe Medela is even selling this. The product designers should be embarrassed. There is no way a mom that has pumped before had anything to do with this design. It feels like it was made by a group of old men that didn't understand breasts.

Horrible Experience / Horrible Pump
f I could rate this as negative stars I would. Do not purchase this pump, not only is it wildly expensive, it is all hard plastic making it hurt when pumping - regardless of the flange size. There are other pumps with silicone or soft flanges that are so much more comfortable and don’t feel like you’re putting your nipples in a meat grinder.
Next, I purchased this on a Friday leaving the hospital as my baby wouldn’t latch and had a tongue tie. I wanted to “invest” in a good pump and unfortunately there isn’t much of a selection where I live and I couldn’t wait for delivery if ordering online. By the Monday, the pump would start malfunctioning and go from level 3 to level 9 - sending a shockwave to my breasts, causing extreme pain and frustration. This occurred multiple times during a pumping session regardless of if it was on a flat surface or not. As well tried to reset the pump and continued. Additionally, it comes with an adjustable string at the top? Not sure if they expect you to just carry it around on your wrist or what…
by Tuesday night the pump sporadically turned on and would not shut off - had to eventually let it die.
On top of all of this - called medela and they agreed to send a new one…. However they dont refund your money, give you a credit or offer any support during the time of it being shipped to you. In my case that was 4 days. They suggested I manually pump (I didn’t have a manual pump). Baseline customer service sucks - do not buy this pump or this brand.

I purchased this pump in January 2024 and after using it just for 3 months it died and doesn’t turn on. Since I was only bottle feeding my baby with pumped milk , I had to get another brand pump as this one die. The other brand pump is way much better than this medela pump plus way much cheaper than this one.
Where this pump takes 30 mins to empty my breast, the other brand pump only do same work in 7-8 mins .. I don’t recommend this pump at all.

Good for back up or occasional use
I tried using the freestyle as a primary pump and learned rather quickly it is not reliable enough for that. I had to ask Medela to replace it twice within a month. My first on started to shut off randomly then wouldn't turn on and the second began losing suction. I purchased a pump in style to use as my primary and my freestyle I only use when being portable is necessary. It is a good pump with a gentle get effective suction , and I responded well to it personally. The collection cups are fantastic and I use them with my pump in style as well as freestyle and will never go back to flange and bottle.
