My 19 month old had finally figured out how to turn door knobs so I got these knob covers just in time. The decoy button works exactly like intended and even when he attempts to turn the knob he cant open the door. Toddler proof knob cover!</span> <span itemprop="description">The Safety 1st Outsmart Knob Covers were fairly hard to install on the door knob but once on, we have been very pleased with these covers. We installed these on the inside of our toddlers room as well as a door leading into our basement. We have tried another cover in the past but we always had to worry that she may lock herself in her room. The decoy button on the Outsmart cover takes away this worry as it completely covers the lock on the door knob and she has not figured out how to access the lock. This is our favorite feature. We also love that these covers have rubber side grips because our daughter does not have enough strength to grip these and open the door. Overall, I would recommend these to any parent who asks. These knob covers give my husband and I an added peace of mind knowing they provide extra protection between our daughter and access to the staircases in our home. The covers are easy to install- simply pull apart by pressing on the small tabs and then press back together around the knob. The middle part of the knob has a &quot;decoy&quot; button that my toddler tries to push, but the decoy button actually pulls out so that you can access a lock if you are using the knob cover on a privacy knob. Once on, you squeeze the cover to turn a knob. Without squeezing it, it just spins. Effectively keeps little ones from being able to open the door. The only thing you will need to check is you have standard size knobs, otherwise the cover may not work. Some knobs in our house are oversized and on these knobs the cover doesn't work.. it may fit but it doesn't prevent the knob from being turned. At first they worked great and I guess the grip material on the inside has worn off and now I literally can't open my door with them on. Problem is, they fit so snugly that I have been unable to remove them, thus far. I do like the center lock cover but instead of grips that wear down after a few days, just need to have the holes for gripping as in the classic style (which we have used for over a year without any issues). While I do plan on keeping these because I like the lock cover, I will be cutting out the soft grip portion. Thankfully my house isn't on fire and I need to make a quick exit! Been trying for over 10 minutes to get the cover off without any success. It works very well for baby proofing and even child proofing door knobs. My 2 year old can't open doors yet, so I tested this on my 4 and 6 year olds and they could not figure out the mechanism. My 6 year old even fell for the decoy button on the front! However, opening the two halves of the cover in order to install it or remove it was so incredibly difficult that I hurt my hands in the process. Squeezing at the seam and pulling apart sounds simple enough in theory, but both I and my husband struggled mightily in practice and it was very frustrating. With that said, I'm sure my hulk toddler will be able to get past this soon; so, I will still be careful of what I store in his bedroom closet. When installing these, make sure your fingernails are very short or you will break them all trying to separate the two pieces from the package. I wish they had packaged the two pieces of the knob separately. When trying to remove the cover, I felt a certain amount of rage because the instructions for removal are not intuitive and even though my nails are short, I still felt them being damaged. I will probably use pliers to remove the cover tomorrow. The product could be improved if there was a key to install and remove the covers.
