Mucus has to be very moist and right at the surface. Going to use a humidifier and hope for the best. Also difficult to know the exact angle to aspirate from. The tip is hard and the edge is sharp. The aspirator is also completely useless and rarely ever removed anything. I threw it away and purchased a nose aspirator from another brand that is much more gentle. It definitely gets the job done and is easy to use. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is that I feel the design could be improved. I prefer a nasal aspirator that is clear, so that you can see what's collected and that it is dirty or clean. I also prefer a design that can be opened/taken apart for easy cleaning. It would not perform well enough for a sick child needing immediate suctioning. The bulb is not much better and would not perform well enough either. However I finally found old light blue ones they give you at the hospital online.
