It runs for a few seconds then the power light turns red and the steam goes away. I do love the light colors and how they are not too bright. I had a more traditional humidifier, but that one has been replaced by this one because it really is just so good. When I opened the box, I noticed this was slightly larger than my other humidifier, but it is well worth it. I love the night light feature, it is perfect to use in my baby's room. I noticed she had a stuffy nose before using this, but since I have been using the humidifier her nose seems less stuffy and I love that I can pop in to her room and see her by the light of this humidifier. I haven't tested the diffuser function yet, but I cannot wait to do that! I have used humidifiers in the past, but this is my new favorite. Aesthetically, this product looks like a fancy diffuser for essential oils you could buy in a home store. I love that this humidifier is very easy to clean and it also has a large tank which allows me to go a few days before cleaning and refilling the tank. That is so helpful as with a little one who has time to change the water or clean the tank every day?! I also love the night light feature. It has a dual purpose which I love and I can use both the humidifier feature and the night light or either feature separately. I also love the idea of the lavender scent diffuser in the humidifier which is perfect for lulling a little one to sleep.
