It's well packaged, but the instructions are a bit vague. However, it doesn't take much to figure out installation. There are metal brackets that screw into the back of the white wood base of the crib that is revealed when you take the original front crib panel off. I found the rail to give a little too much with pushing (as kids do) and caused a bit of a gap where the rail meets the side panels of the crib (opposite side to the opening). Solved it with 2 zip ties rather then drilling and screwing in their parts. Much more solid and doesn't damage the crib for future use. I was also concerned (as with all low rails) of the edge of the rail by the opening. I used a white hand towel and zip tied it along the edge of the opening.
