They also help so that he isn't searching all around the plate to get food on his spoon, only within a section. The suction on the bottom of the plate is good! It works well on flat surfaces (not great suction on anything that is not smooth). The suction could hold better as baby was able to remove it one time but I would suggest a little bit of water to strengthen the hold between the surface and the plate, which we didn't do that time. The different sections give her that control and she loves it. We love it too because she enjoys meal time more with less dishes. :) The suction is also excellent which keeps the plate off the floor (and the uneaten food on it).
